MY men got almost struck by lightning. It happened during our outfield training behing Gedong... it was raining heavily, and the CO just refused to evacuate us, cause we were in the forest(but quite open) and were still on a mission. So suddenly we heard a super loud bang. At first my men didn't tell me anything until we came to a halt..then we were discussing about that incident and he compained to me that he felt the static when the bang occured..and apparently those close to him could also feel it. WTH... just hated my CO, too mission orientated and don't care about our lives. Anyway, he's the most scewed up co i've ever had..

If there is anyone being struck by lightning, it's high impossible that he/she will be still alive today to share with you what or how is it like. Right?

At best, possible is that someone may share about close encounter with lightning strikes, be it themselves experienced it personally or some incident they witnessed.

Nowadays, safety is paramount in training. When Cat 1 is declared, all outdoor training activities must stop and everyone must go under a shelter. When it's Cat 3 under normal weather, it's unlikely to have any lightning strike.

Cat 1: Thunderstorms with Lightning, ie Electric Storms
Cat 2: Drizzle/Rain with no Lightning
Cat 3: Clear Weather

One do not declare Cat 1 just because someone in camp saw some black clouds forming up and looks like rain is coming for sure. The declaration of lightning Cat come from Meteorology Office or Weather Forecast Office.

Sometime, the presence of lightning may not necessary must be Cat 1, it could still be in Cat 2 level. Thus, no one declare Cat 1 yet.

Also, there are time when weather apparently clear with blue sky and cloudy and yet, lightning Cat 1 is declared.

Most of the SAF units does come with Cat 1 Siren system, as such, every newly posted in or enlisted personnel should be briefed about the Lightning Cat system and practices in the unit.
