hi.
for all those who are in NCC or NPCC. RED CROSS ARE NOT SISSIES!!! why i'm writing this is because the number of people who call me a sissy when i'm in red cross. i mean...why is that?!?!? is it because we have girls and less guys?! is it because that first aid is like doing nursing jobs?!! its totally sick! i have to strike back at those people who think that red cross is not manly like NCC or NPCC.
We may not have number one uniforms or able to bear rifles during parades but at least we can save people instead of killing them!!! And of course when we scold our juniors we don't need to scold the F word in front of them. And comparing my school Red cross to my school NCC and NPCC, Our footdrill is better than theirs. ANd the most irritating mistake i see in NCC is that for all footdrill, whether static or whatever, they have a 45 degree knee bend instead of a 90 degree! And our instructor trains us harder than the NCC or NPCC because he's a full time NS man and an officer!
This is proof to show everyone that Red cross are overall better than NCC or NPCC!!!

hey relax brother. i used to be from St John Ambulance brigade too and i know how it feels when other uniform groups think that they are superior. Our group of guyz worked and trained hard and in the end held our heads high when we won several awards. We were proud of what we do and never regreted choosing this as our ECA.

I mean.. Its a common thing for guys to be in NCC or NPCC. But it takes something more for the guy to be in RED CROSS! WOohz. =)) I totally understand what jiaxian is driving at, because when i was in red cross, someone commented that guys in here are sissies~. You can only say... they have a shallow thinking. :)

hey, i think you should put aside your insecurities and low self esteem about being in the red cross. No doubt there maybe this stigma about boys being in red cross, but i always believe in doing what i deem is right, you live for yourself right? i think that irregardless of all the childish inmature comments, you should continue in your own pursue.
On another note, more often than not kids who tend to insult or poke fun of others are the ones who feel insecure about themselves. They put up a facade and put down others to stroke their own ego. So ignore these people, they dun need your attention.
Cheer up and lift your head up high.

U R one mean fella!
both U & Jiaxian are making sweeping statements but at least he has a point -RED CROSS R NOT SISSIES!!!!
How could you judge whether one is sissy or not by their profession?!!!
Does being manly equates being non-vocal about their grievances, being stronger than their co-hocs and being someone who's simply given a title that suggests he can fight?!!!!
Medical officer is not very manly? I dare you to say that if one day you get pushed into a medical office & under their mercy! Then, I'll say you're the man!!!!!

define manly. and you sound sore.
besides that, medical officers are usually medical school students returning to serve their NS. and that shows they're very smart. getting into medicine isn't easy at all.

Only what we do matters...
Our actions & not words will reasonate long after we have fade away...
Any organisation/group has a reason to exist/contribute or for you to join in the first place.
Red Cross is not just about first aid.
It is also about discipline, unity & teamwork.
Red Cross participates in National activities such as the National Day Parade and the Singapore Youth festival.
RC takes an active role in fund-raising activities and community service projects.
Cadets are taught to persevere in times of trouble and to overcome any obstacle with a never-say-die spirit...
Wait a minute...
this is applicable to NCC, NPCC, SJAB, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides & SCDF(?? I'm not sure if it is the correct acronym) too!
There will always be someone saying "your group no good, we're better" stuff.
Its like comparing Red berets & Khaki berets.
You should be proud of you unit/group that you've joined.
You prove yourselves with actions, & dont be disheartened by words.
Words are mere words.
They are not physical barriers to what you are capable of achieving.
Remember your motto and your promise...

define manly.
man-ly
adj. man·li·er, man·li·est
1)Having qualities traditionally attributed to a man.
2)Belonging to or befitting a man; masculine. See Synonyms at male
and you sound sore.

Gee well, childish or not, you aren't exactly mature; what-with your schoolboy's English. Nonetheless, that is not the point here.
jiaxian's poor self-esteem is evident in him posting this out-of-sense, out-of-place thread in the "Wake Up Your Idea" subforum. The fact that he repeatedly asks questions about being viewed as a sissy, can only lead one to conclude that he is insecure about being in Red Cross. The statement “I have to strike back” shows that not only is he unable to withstand a simple misconception that Red Cross is not macho, but that he is also petty over such issues. This is supported in the next sentence, when he uses minute details like “number one uniforms” and “rifles” as a comparison to the more weighty issue of “saving lives”(I myself would not even begin to compare a rifle to saving a man from bleeding to death, it would just be beneath me).
As the elephant man kindly pointed out earlier, in JC, one will learn about generalization and about “isolated examples”. This is a classic case whereby jiaxian uses a personal example in his secondary school, that all over Singapore, Red Cross triumphs over NCC and NPCC(note, “or” and not “and” is used).
Of course I could go on, but effort exerted should be in proportion to significance. Therefore, I would conclude at the end of this Analysis and Evaluation that this source is unreliable and prejudiced.
Oh and elephantman, a piece of advice: If someone requires you to give a definition, the said person is usually too ignorant for you to continue talking to.

Well yes, it is a misconception - tell that to all those who called him a sissy.
That is his intention for starting this thread.
Clearly he is young and is vulnerable to people's opinions about him...his peers' irresponsible remarks that undermine his masculinity & threatens his ego is affecting his esteem. This should signal to you to exercise more sensitivity when responding to this otherwise it might have reverse effects. Now, this is part of being matured & sparing a thought for people's feelings. I just think that elephantman's reply was too harsh on him!
and elephantman:
when i say "U R A MEAN FELLA!", my hand's not moving from left to right, front to back with a broken wrist. I say it staring right in your face! I'm a girl!
Of course I could go on, but effort exerted should be in proportion to significance. Therefore, I would conclude at the end of this Analysis and Evaluation that this source is unreliable and prejudiced.
That's why we're here to offer different perspectives!
Oh and elephantman, a piece of advice: If someone requires you to give a definition, the said person is usually too ignorant for you to continue talking to.
I expected him to give a definition in his own terms and not extract from the dictionary. Differences often arise due to individual's varying definitions therefore there is a need to ask him to define it!
and before I end, where is Jiaxian?!!!! I realized there are a few stompers who jolly start a thread and then just vanished, leaving unrelated people like us debating until siao over his thread! hahaha

Hey relax man :) ... u dun have to be too concerned about how others think abt ya ... yeah i know this may sound like bull**** but trust me .. i've seen many NCC / NPCC cadets who always wear those top-gun sunglasses whenever they're in school, their noses higher than their heads, always boasting abt how many chin-ups they can do etc ... many of them turned into big fat blobs when they left school man ..
Red cross is a cool org to be in, and its function is important, if not MORE important, than NCC and NPCC sometimes ... so dun be discouraged .. everyone goes thru dark times in school, be it from homework, tauntings from schoolmates, parents nagging etc , but it'll pass ... so cheer up :p

OK OK!!!
this whole thing is gettin out of hand...i cannot deny that everyone has their own point of views....but i have been monitoring this whole page myself...but i cannot just sit here and see evryone arguing about this than discussing about this...i may have offended some of u guys...cos maybe one of you may be in NCC or NPCC anyway....the reason why i stated this thread anyway is because my school's NCC just cut across our whole unit just a few days ago....
"cut across" as in just passed in front of us when we were doing some parade....and they were marching in front of us...
cutting across another groups squad or platoon is the breaking of a rule and destroys the pride of one's uniformed group being cut across...this is a simple rule that is not supposed to be broken at all...
so of course...i was quite furious, and so was everyone in my unit...this was to add to my fury after two whole years people jeering at us because of what we are...so i thot the NCC were not respecting us...we red cross have our own pride and i do not wish to see this so-called "discussion" turn out to become an Argument to be forever unsettled...so can i have less negative posts after this pls???

They say Red Cross Sissy? Wait till they get an injury or kena knock down by car then see who act like the sissy. The who make them from sissy to fit. Its like the ever raging Band Vs CO war in our school. The CO is Rival to the Band. That only teaches us, Each CCA group is unique and therefore, should be equally respected.
Hey, you make this STOMP account just specially so u can like, Scold the NCC and NPCC ah, Like tat ah I still think that Red cross is not Sissy.

well.. there's still SJAB right? haha. but agreed - people only tend to take things for granted. if I'm not wrong, the RC/SJAB in most schools are on duty for lots of events in case of any injury.

don't stereotype a whole CCA/organisation just because of 1 person. and it's more of being puerile.. not really petty per se.

The whole thing sound very childish if u think they have no regard for your cca then prove them wrong win some awards or do somthing no use getting mad and trying to shout out ur grievences here.
My own example, school politics again. I am from ncc air and air and land in my school doesn't like each other and stuff like dat. and for a long time, we were like 30% of their strength what i did later on was change the ratio over, train myself and my company hard and we overtook our land unit through our strong sense of pride and culture, our numerous awards both academic and ncc and the services we render to our school and neighbourhood community. It is through ur merits where u will be judge not by who can shout louder or further. Better still, we even taught them some stuff and mend our ties through initatives to help them up too. Here u also win the commendation of the rest? Isn't it better than fighting all day long with them?

yep. im from sjab and they too think that we are useless and the guys who join are sissies. haha.
funny lah. but no matter how many awards we won, it'll never be taken into considerations as ncc and npcc firstly dominates and overpower sjab, girl guides and boys brigade. yup.
maybe ncc and npcc and more regonized, thats why. and they prove themselves to be good and they are a national cca. yup.
but still, its very childish to argue over this lah.

I was from SJAB when I was in secondary sch! I am the onli guy in my batch but I dun feel bad at all. It was a great choice made and I love what I have chosen. I did not regret at all. The skills learnt from my seniors and officers, were so precious and I eventually even took up Nursing to carry on helping others.
