Can Stompers tell us what your most memorable NS experience is, both full-time as well as during reservist days?

One of my most memorable experience was during one reservist ICT. We had a very niau XO who's a regular. He made life difficult for all, a real arrogant SOB. One day, he ordered the reservist cooks (that's before SAF outsourced cooking) to cook supper for him. The cooks were unhappy because they had cleaned up the cookhouse for the day. Cooking a meal for the XO would mean having to clean the cookhouse all over again. So, they cooked fried rice for him. But they added special seasoning. Not XO sauce, but they spat into the rcie and mix up ther extra seasoning with the rice. Every cook contributed something. Phui! Phui! Phui!
The best scene was seeing the officer digging into his fried rice happily. He found the meal very tasty...hahaha

I do not have the most memorable NS experience but i do have lots of memorable experience during NS.
> Can't wait to book out but the thought of booking in back, just sianz!
> Spending the whole night digging shell scrap first and then firetrench later.
> Smoking the whole pack within half a night during outfield! (It's either i die of lung cancer on the spot or i get itch to death biten by the commando mosquitos!)
> Avoiding arrows.
> Turning the bunk into a club by blasting club music to the max! You might be wondering how right? It's all thanks to that genius who brought in his own set of speakers plus a sub-woofer along with it!
> Smoking, drinking and gambling in bunk. This time, the transformation of a bunk into a club is getting more real! It all happens only in the night... late night that is.
> Living up to the 'Do anything you want but don't get caught' spirit!
> Searching the parade square for a gas regulator (thanks to that moron who was playing with his gas regulator! That guy is indeed a true and pure dumb f**k!)
...bascially the list goes on! There's so much to say and share! Whatever it is, to those who are still IN there, have fun while you're still inside!

I did my recruit training at SAFTI.
It ws the toughest.
Imagine staging an ambush in the middle of the night at the cemetry in Lim Chu Kang. You didnt even think of the "ho hia di" next to you. Most of the time thru out the ambush we were sleeping waiting for the Sgt to "wake" us up when the "enemy" arrive.:)

They actually PAY you to get slim.
I guess those who have been through NS should have many memorable experience. Some good, some bad, some super funny.
There is once during our training, when our platoon was listening to the instructor's briefing, 2 of my platoonmates was not listening and talking at the back. The instructor punished them by making them carry a spare tyre from our jeep and run round the basketball court... :D
Theres also the SAF 7th rule 'Do anything you want but don't get caught'. Somehow, we managed to break quite a number of rules without getting caught.

i went overseas 4 times , i tot i alot liao.. but u went 7 times. clap clap. yah i do agree overseas stint is the most memorable. i went brunei and i can never forget. wet and moist, everyday rain. thailand was hot like hell, sitting in the wooden bunk and u can feel dripping to the seat u are sitting on. taiwan winter phase was cold like mad, mission oso tough. :D summer was humid and dry. challenging.

During NSF, there is typically 3 to 4 oversea trips... If include reservist, at most around 6 trips. Maybe chevrons is regular. :p
He also never mention where he went or what are the events which makes the trip memorable...
Thailand is hot and dry. There was also little vegetation, hence very dusty. Everytime when come back from training, everyone will get a natural brown camo. The memorable part is probably the canteen, got nice tom yum soup, pineapple fried rice, cheap satay, etc. The food in the canteen is better than those "authentic" and expensive Thai restaurants in Singapore.
In Brunei, everyone gets to sleep a lot during jungle training. 4-5pm must setup camp, 6pm go sleep. 8am wakeup. 14hrs sleep... ;)
Taiwan is walk walk walk very very far. Uphill, downhill... Luckily the chicken chop "mobile canteen" always follow you around. So you never get hungry.

...think cannot compared to what we did when we took over this taiwanese army camp during ROC assignment. They used to "berak" into this canal inside the toilet and then flush once a day into the offstreams outside. We found the canal hardened with dun know how many years of beraks. We had to go down to dig them out.....arrrgghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:eek:
Looks like both of you are lau peng... my platoon also kena before all the coolie jobs like clearing longkang, painting kurb, de-weeding parade square. When go overseas, have to do community work, such as helping the farmers there to remove broken down fence and setup new one, clear rubbish dump, etc. The list goes on, also can consider memorable lah... :p

Reading all your postings really give me a good laugh !!! Sure brings back memories man !!
Off hand, on a controlled topo in Pierce/Seletar Reserves during OCS Junior term, our Mentor purposely allow our PC Appointment Holder to lead us cadets across this 'Mosquitoe Ring' area towards or intended objective...
It was not the mosquitoe that got us, it was waist deep mud or sludge or whatever you call it !!! And our PC's last order was, " see you champions at the objective, I will do a standby weapon there..." guess he knew where our 'PC' was leading us through.....
Can you imagine, weapons overhead,(the poor MG gunner...) mud at waist-deep and cursing your lungs out for god-knows-how-long the bashing????!!!!.....lucky still can stand today.....

I also help the CSM to clear the stupid drain 'cos it was choked with sand. U know those monsoon drains are darn huge and I had to used a 6" pipe which is longer that 3m to push and loosen the sand. Really stupid job.
I remember at the dead of the night I have to again help the CSM to remove the weeds from the washing bay area. Our washing bay area is about as big as the parade square!
The most stupid thing is that as 3SGs, our CSM still wants us to clean the toilet and empty the rubbish contributed by every bunk each morning.
When I look back at all these, I find that these "Sai Kang" are really nothing compare to life outside the army. Life outside is definitely tougher.

Haha... first of all I am the typical NSF to NSmen. Not a regular. I went so many times because of SISPEC and ATEC evaluations. Basically the areas I went to are Thailand, Australia and Taiwan.
Thailand wise the area of ops are not as hilly as Taiwan. But the weather can be quite unbearable at times. Sometimes during contact with enemies, some Thailand kids will spring out of nowhere and ask the men whether they want any drinks or not.
Australia is the coldest I ever went to and stayed at 2 different camps. At one particular site, there is no handphone receptions at all. We have designated hours for calling and have to pack the whole company down on tonners to an open air field to get some decent receptions. And the dust there is horrendous... Everytime move out in green colour, come back in brown colour
Taiwan wise is where I enjoyed most, though the terrain is the worst in my opinion. But weather is just cool enough to enjoy. Not forgetting the R&R
