NS is not equal to the army.

I think this is a very very common misconception.

the SAF (army) is only one of the few organizations where guys do their NS. the others include SPF (Singapore Police Force), SCDF (Singapore Civil Defence Force), NDU (Naval Diving Unit) etc.

So please get this idea that doing NS doesnt necessarily mean serving the army, although thats the majority. =)

When i was overseas...I told them about national service...first thing they presume would be serving the army....so it is true. I had to waste 20breath to explain i am not in army.

SCDF and SPF also help in a way to serve the countrie so people should think of them more than just army army army even thought they are equaly important of cause :D
