I ord around 3 months ago, coming from a unit where i spent my bmt days all the way till the end with the same bunch of guys, i really miss the in camp life. Made a few life long friends inside, so guys out there do try to enjoy and treasure your ns life.

Well, in army, we learn that the only way to survive is to watch your own back. If not all your superiors and even your so-called friends will walk all over you because they know that they CAN. Hope this answers your question. :)

Wow... strike87, ur unit sounds "xiong". If u're not in BMT, i reckon u're in Sispec, OCS, or some "garang" unit like Commandos.

I have finished my ns and reservisit terms and even though they are tough at times, but u will learn to treasure them. No where will u be able to learn leadership and team building better than in the army. and u get paid for learning as well.:)

I beg to diff Destroyer, NS life is a very unique experience that not everyone will get to go through. After I ORD, i went to Australia for my Uni studies and the guys there envied our kind of experience that they will never have a chance to through; throw a live hand-grenade, fired live 5.56/7.62/155 calibre round, playing real-life counter strike and also experiencing life threatening situation like "back stabbing" in a controlled environment :D so that in the real world, you will know how to catch the flying daggers or avoid them.

Jokes aside, like most guys, I too can't wait to finish my 2.5 years (now 2yrs liao... heart pain) but after i ORD, i realised that NS life is actually not that bad as to compare to the working world. I just came back from my first high-key and it's nice to see most of my men and fellow specs around. Those who were not around actually expressed interests to join the ICT, but due to work / study commitments, they have to skip this one. We had fun recounting our funny days, enjoyed making fun of our past actions. Men who were troublemakers are now the most "on" about ICT.

I can't wait to go back for my next ICT... (can take a break from my mundane work again)

I think the thread starter is trying to imply that he treasures frienship in army life more than just training bah, since many Xiong trainings suck...:p

He's right. Well, actually, tough trainings are ok. I think these are the "likes" and "dislikes" of NSFs..

well, generally. Some might beg to digger.

"LIKES"
(1) Friendships - Really, this is the only thing that would keep u going.
(2) Training - With the righ spirit, training, no matter how tough will actually feel enjoyable. And yes, let's not talk about the guards or commandos. Their trainings are probably a lot more tougher than the rest of the combatants, but I'm sure they have their own way of finding pleasure in that.

"DISLIKES"
(1) Lousy Pay - Or allowance rather. If any company comes up to me and offers a starting pay of $350 I'll say "**** YOU!"
(2) Superiors - Yes there are good ones, but for every good one, u have 20 other bad ones. Hmmm, 20 sounds exaggerated.. maybe 19. ;)
(3) Food - Need I say more?
(4) Impartial Treatment - Those who have been on the wrong end of biased treatment will definitely know about this. The army has to get this prioritized. Everyone is in the same boat, should war ever break out (touch wood), every one will be on the same playing field. A red-carpet treatment for the white horses simply means that these (white horses) will be outcasted from the men.

 Your dislikes overode the likes but that is a fact. Now must really depend on strong friendships in army life to salvage the liking..:D

Yep :) but actually point 4 for "dislikes" is kinda redundant, because not every unit has a white horse. Although there will always be bias-ness.

Surprisingly...I never thought I would feel this way...about to ORD...and I suddenly feel lost and sad...

I always thought I would have a life after I ORD and live it my way...but no...that wasn't true...

I don't know what I'm saying...but now that my NS chapter is ending...I can only say that I've experienced, and am experiencing something I never thought I ever would before...

Truth...nothing but the truth...
