Well, before the Actual NDP, there's National Education (NE) Show 15 Jul, & the NDP Preview 29 Jul.

At NE Show, where the crowd is all the schoolkids, I must say IMO it's the BEST out of the 3 shows.
The atmosphere, the energy, the spontaneity of the kids really electrifies the whole stadium.

Fireworks for the Actual will be the best.
For those who dun have tickets, you can catch it at Stadium vicinity. (Tanjong Rhu Rd near Cozy Bay i think, Old Airport Rd).
Be warned about heavy traffic & road closures at Stadium vicinity tho.

National Anthem & the NDP song on 9 Aug.
When I hear it play & sung by the choir (& some of the spectators), it never fails to give me a tingling sensation - this is what being a Singaporean is about.

But when the songs end, the magic's gone.
Back to work & wait for the fireworks & everybody to go home.

I've been through a few of the NDPs :
2000 - Mobile Column
2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2006 - NE, Preview & Actual at Stadium Red Sector
2005 - NE1, NE2, Preview, Actual
2007 - Marina or Padang?

Its actually the kids, fireworks & the song that still can wow me.

Default 2007

actually every year it is almost the same. the drills, the march past. except for the different changes to maybe the helicopters. I have sat at blue sector, green sector for the parade/preview but I must say the view at the grandstand is always the best! Red sector is my favourite.

Next year will be an exciting one cause it's held at Marina Waterfront and also because my unit is involved. Engineers rock.

I used my gf's Kodak cam to capture the panoramic view.
Took 3 pics of the Stadium from Grandstand & stitched it up.
Last view of the Stadium... gonna print it... for memories.

Have actually been to quite a few NDP (from the queuing, overnight queuing til balloting).

Always dread the going there & going home (you can't imagine the crowds & kiasuism), getting stepped on numerous times (from people who are so afraid of not getting their goodie bags), & children crying & screaming into your ears.

But I muz say e moment u r in e stadium, its a totally different feeling. The momentum, the energy, the joy, the pride is not something u can describe. U hv 2 b there to actually know the feeling.

Sad that all these historical buildings (i.e. National Stadium, National Library) have to give way to advancement.

Default Kudos to the Men in Green!

The Lim family sent us this email:
Quote:
As the saying goes when there is a will, there is a way and we want to express our sincere gratititude to the our men in green who made the National Stadium wheel chair friendly through sheer teamwork, strength and determination.

We had the good fortune of being offered some tickets to the NDP rehearsal on 15 July 2006 on the day itself but without a car label. As my eighty year old and at least eighty kilograms father is essentially wheelchair bound, we went early before the road closure to check if we could do a drop off and to check whether there was wheelchair access. We were given to understand the National Stadium was not the most modern of buildings but that did not stopCL Ting and the rest of the men in green from assisting us. CL Ting used
best efforts to help check and assured me it would be sorted and my vehicle would be allowed to drop off on return.

After the roads were closed, we returned with my father and were allowed to drop off my father as promised. As I had to drive my car back out of the closed area to park at Old Airport Road, our men in green saw to it that my father and mother were suitably settled together with my Dad's helper and my toddler son. It was only when I returned that I found out, 5 of our men carried my father and his wheel chair up all the steps from the West entrance to the gallery! Needless to say we enjoyed the show immensely and
thereafter, when we asked for assistance, another group of men in green carried my father all the way down and along the way, some others helped open gates as well.

We just want to say we are truly impressed by the can-do attitude and spirit and while we are sorry we did not get all your names, we did get a picture of the trip down.

Cheers!
