Default Stomp Getai Awards 2006

Who gets your vote for Getai King and Queen?

The getai season is here again. The neighbourhood getai during the Hungry Ghost Festival has evolved into something that has become a unique part of Singaporean culture. It is now a permanent feature of our social landscape. It is pure entertainment on the one hand and a socio-cultural event on the other. We at Stomp recognise this. So, in the spirit of the Hungry Ghost festival, we are giving out awards for this year's getais.

We want your participation in our tribute to the getai. So, attend any getai show, whip out your phones or digital cams and send us your choices for any of the following categories. SMS/ MMS getai<space> your name <space>the category<space> artiste's name to 75557. For email, send your video clips or photos to 75557@stomp.com.sg

Or you could just click on the e-flick, watch and vote! It's that easy!

Eight fantastic prizes are up for grabs! The top picture submission as judged by our editors will win a Canon Ixus digital camera, whilst the second, a Canon Powershot digital camera, and the third, a 1 GB Ipod Nano. Five goodie bags will be given away as well.

We will post the schedules of the performances on a regular basis. Stay tuned!

Check out some contenders for the STOMP Getai Awards on STOMPcast.

All you have to do to show your support for your favourite star, is click and watch!

I thought the front row seats are usually reserved for........??
Why are those men sitting there?
Usually, these getai shows attract a lot of 'uncles' and 'ah peks' who go there to oggle at the skimply dressed singers.

It also attracts a lot of `hungry ghosts' during this festival.

Good idea to create interest in getais. It's an intrinsic part of our culture. It enriches our culture. Would be a pity to see it vanish, like so many other traditions.

And it's fun to watch too. So, young Singaporeans, come down from your high horses and attend one of the getais in your neighbourhood.

It's definitely more entertaining than that stupid Singapore Idle contest or a Robbie William concert...and it's free too.
