SINGAPORE: The woman who hid her stillborn baby in a locker at her workplace has escaped jail.

37-year-old Wong Lih Tyng was handed a 15-month probation sentence and 80 hours of community service.

She had kept the body of her baby at the Bishan Junction 8 NTUC Supermarket after delivering the baby herself at her home last August.

The decomposed body was only discovered days later when the stench aroused the suspicion of Wong's colleagues, who made the find.

Wong, who pleaded guilty to the charge of intentionally disposing the body of a child, did it as she was confused and did not know what to do with it.

She had kept her pregnancy and the subsequent still birth a secret from her family, friends and colleagues.

Details on why she did so emerged on Tuesday when District Judge Bala Reddy read out a psychiatric assessment on Wong.

The report stated that Wong had been physically and mentally abused by her husband.

When she found out she was pregnant, she was at a loss of what to do because her husband had asked her to go for abortions twice previously.

The judge ordered Wong to attend psychiatric sessions as well as marital counselling sessions with her husband. - CNA/yy

yeah i think that's the 'best' she should get ba. what kind judgement you want?

Death sentence? that would be too much, anyways its not suka suka throw the body(dead one mind u) away. The psychiatric assessment already state that she probably was confused(not in a sound state of mind to a certain extent) when she did what she did. So you can't REALLY treat her lyk a normal criminal really.

Yet another exploitation of the flaw in the legal system. The psychos don't always get what they deserve :/

who is the psycho here? the husband? or the wife?

the woman was abused, and while other women would be celebrating and sharing the joy of pregnancy with their friends and families, she had to go through it alone. she had no support from her husband, and then lost her child. is that not punishment enough, for a woman to have to hold the body of her dead child that she carried for 9 months.
