Default Are there nice quiet places in S'pore to just hang out and read?

Sitting on the grass is a bad idea in Singapore... It's just too muddy and filled with creepy crawlies. Yukk.

Are there any nice quiet places in Singapore to read?

Preferably not a coffee place or other paying place.... not because I'm not willing to play, but because I'd be taking up their commercial space.

Any ideas?

The waterbreakers at East Coast. The benches along most beaches and reservoirs.. I particularly like Tanjong Beach, Sentosa due to the strong winds, ample shade, near-emptiness and sheer spaciousness.

I guess if you don't mind a little background noise / white noise, then a bench overlooking the bird-poles (the poles where the elderly hang their bird cages and listen to them sing) in an old estate (Clementi, Tiong Bahru, Serangoon; the last two named after birds) would be enriching.

hey that's actually a good idea. i've nvr done that b4.

i usually just hang out at quiet coffee places so i won't feel like i'm preventing them fr earning more money. sometimes the owners prefer u to hang ard too so the place doesnt look too bare.
